Chemistry Internet Resources

Deborah Carter PeoplesScience Librarian, is the librarian liaison to the Chemistry department.

  • The Chemist's Code of Conduct.: The American Chemical Society.
  • ChemCenter: A Service of the American Chemical Society (ACS): an informative and valuable resource to the worldwide chemical community arranged around eight categories: Professional Services, Conferences and Communication, Electronic Publications, Database Searching, a web Search engine, Electronic Shopping, and Chemistry Resources.
    • Chemistry Resources offers a sampler of pointers to a broad selection of web sites of interest to the chemical and broader scientific community. Also located on this page is the Science Smorgasbord - a wonderfully eclectic collection of science-related sites.
    • Database Searching has an important link to all of the ACS journals. It is possible to see Table of Contents listings for recent issues of all ACS journals. With the appropriate password it is also possible to search, view, and print abstracts and full-text articles. Most of the ACS journals are ectronically archived for at least 1996.
  • The Chemistry Hypermedia Project at Virginia Tech is using the internet to provide supplemental educational resources to chemistry students. Hypermedia tutorials cover General & Inorganic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Ethics in Science, Electronics, and Optics & Lasers .
  • The Wilson Group at University of California - San Diego has combined computer-generated images of atoms and molecules with formulas from general and physical chemistry. Students studying atomic orbitals would find some help here.
  • Topics in Chemistry A site providing an index of documents relating to topics in chemistry. The list of topics is very inclusive and are geared toward topics covered in a general chemistry course. It also includes an Online Encyclopedia of Analytical Chemistry and Instrumentation.
  • Chemical Information on the Internet A comprehensive catalog of sources of chemical information of all types, produced Northern Illinois University. Sections include Chemistry Databases & Related Information, Electronic Journals, General Interest Chemistry Web Sites, Commercial Sales, University Web Sites, Government Web Sites, Chemistry gopher sites, and other lists of Chemistry Resources on the Internet.
    • Another site of the same sort produced by Umea University in Umea, Sweden also provides a very comprehensive list of chemistry resources on the internet.
  • Biochemistry and General Chemistry on the Internet
  • Chem Finder Web Server A chemical compound database containing a limited amount of physical data for over 3500 compounds searchable by name, chemical formula, and by structure.
  • Chemical Compound Information Sites Listings of sites covering chemical compound information in Biochemistry, Health, Medications, Material Data Safety Sheets, Pesticides & Herbicides, Physical Properties, Regulations, Structures, Usage, and Miscellaneous. These are the sites indexed by the ChemFinder services.
  • Betacyte List of Chemistry Journals This site claims to have the most comprehensive collection of chemical and biochemical journals on the Web. There are over 200 journals listed. The listings are sorted by the following criteria: complete on-line journals that do not require payment (yet), on-line journals that have some limitations, and journals that show the Table of Contents and/or Abstracts of their paper editions.
  • Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
  • The Science Reference Shelf A site providing general reference information covering the following topics: constants, periodic tables, chemical safety, literature searching, time, biographical information (physics), and general reference.
  • Environmental Chemistry Resources on the World Wide Web.
