Click here for directions on Locating the Ethernet Adapter Address

Windows 9x

1. You must have an Ethernet network interface card (NIC) with an RJ45 network port properly installed in your computer. If you do not have a properly installed NIC, see contact information of Other Resources on the Help Desk web site.

2. To make sure your computer recognizes your NIC, right click on the My Computer icon and then select Properties.

3. Click on the Device Manager tab.

4. Double click on Network Adapters. Your Ethernet card should be displayed. If there is a yellow exclamation mark or red x, your NIC is not installed correctly, go to step 1.

5. If the NIC is installed correctly and the software drivers loaded properly, close all windows. If your desktop does not display the Network Neighborhood icon, you will need to reload the software drivers for the NIC, go to step 1.

6. Right click on the Network Neighborhood icon and select Properties. This will open a Network window.

7. On the Configuration tab there is a list of clients, adapters (NICs), and protocols. Check to see if the TCP/IP protocol is listed. If it is there, go to step 13.
