This guide is intended to help you begin library research related to the Biological Sciences, including Biology, Botany, Genetics, Microbiology and Zoology. Resources are located in both Beeghly Library and the Hobson Library in the Conrades-Wetherell Science Center.

Use CONSORT to locate books on your subject. To begin a subject search, look for your topic in the Library of Congress Subject Headings books located on the wood shelves next to the Information Commons workstations.
Periodical Indexes & Abstracts
Periodical indexes are used to identify articles about a particular subject that have appeared in journals or magazines.

The United States government funds research in many areas related to the biological sciences. This research is often described in government documents. Generally, you will need to search CONSORT by subject and then use the Superintendent of Documents (SUDOC) number to locate the material in the government documents shelves on the first floor of Beeghly.
Annual reviews summarize the work done in one particular research field each year. Generally you can find the call numbers for the annual reviews by doing a title search on CONSORT with the title "Annual Review"; "Advances in"; "Current"; "Progress in"; "Methods in". Ohio Wesleyan has annual reviews in the following areas: cancer research; cell biology; cytology; developmental biology; ecology; entomology; enzymology; genetics; horticulture; human genetics; immunology; marine biology; microbiology; molecular biology; ornithology; parasitology; pharmacology and toxicology; physiology; phytopathology; plant physiology; quantitative biology.
