Audio Visual Center

The Audio Visual (AV) Center is located on the lower level of Beeghly Library. The AV Center offers members of the Ohio Wesleyan University community a specialized area for non-print resources and the opportunity to incorporate these resources in the academic curriculum.

BORROWING PRIVILEGES

Audiovisual software, equipment, facilities, and services support programs of instruction and research. Resources are offered to Ohio Wesleyan University students, faculty, and staff for purposes of teaching, learning, and investigation. Library registration and current Ohio Wesleyan University identification are required.

Commercial software has been licensed for educational use providing for classroom instruction and enrichment. The collection may not be used for purposes of entertainment unless a performance license has been obtained.

EQUIPMENT

Audiovisual equipment circulates for curriculum, student activities and high administrative priorities. Filling out an Equipment Reservation Request is recommended to ensure availability.

Equipment delivery and operation services are offered to faculty when the AV Center's facilities are unavailable. Delivery hours are Monday through Friday between 9am and 4pm. Arrangements must be made at least one week in advance.

Circulating equipment includes:

  • data projectors
  • audio cassette players
  • camcorders
  • digital cameras
  • overhead projectors,
  • 16mm film projectors
  • 35mm slide projectors 
  • VHS players
  • DVD players

Projection bulbs, blank audio, videotape and CDs are available and may be charged to department accounts in direct support of AV services. AV supplies are not available for sale to individuals.

FACILITIES

Facilities are available in the AV Center to simplify the use of audiovisual resources. Reservations are taken during all hours of operation. Advance notice is requested and confirmation is required. Call the Audio Visual Services Desk at (614) 368 - 3265 or forward a Room Reservation Request Form.

Facilities include:

  • Large format poster printing
  • Video conferencing services
  • Two AV equipped classrooms for groups of 20-30
  • Three viewing and listening rooms to accommodate 1-3 people
  • Learning laboratory with stereo cassette player/recorders for class and individual study
  • Film/Video screening room offers large screen projection with surround sound for DVD, Videotape or data.

All classrooms are equipped with videotape playback and the ability to receive cable, and satellite programming.

Set-up is provided upon request for all audiovisual support available.

Operation assistance should be requested at the time of room reservation.

  • Monday - Thursday -- 8:00 am - 9:00 pm
  • Friday -- 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
  • Saturday -- Closed
  • Sunday -- 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm

SOFTWARE

The software collection is developed for curricular support. Software holdings are available online using CONSORT or in the Media Software Catalog. Software circulates for two days. The software collection includes material in the following formats:

  • Audio cassettes
  • CD-ROMs
  • 16mm film
  • VHS video cassettes
  • DVDs

AV RESERVES

AV Reserve provides maximum access to the collection by limiting the circulation period for specific class use. Faculty may request non-circulating reserves on most AV items by calling the AV services desk at x3265.

SOFTWARE ACQUISITION: RENTAL AND PURCHASE

The AV Center will assist faculty in obtaining film and video resources to meet specific instructional needs. To ensure availability, submit a Software Requisition Request at least four weeks in advance.

Coordination of purchase requests includes research, acquisition, and cataloging for the library collection. Funding support may be available. Discuss purchase requests with the Audio Visual Services Manager or departmental librarian liaison.

SOFTWARE PRODUCTION AND SERVICES

The AV Center offers production services in direct support of teaching and learning. Call the Audio Visual Services Desk at (614) 368 - 3265 or complete a Production Request Form at AV services desk.

Off-air, cable and satellite recording are available upon request in compliance with copyright regulations. "Fair use" provides for instructional viewing within 10 class days of taping. A license may be obtained or tape must be erased with 45 calendar days.

Audio and video taping services are offered to document campus lectures and events. Master tapes become part of the library collection. Arrangements should be made as early as possible. An AV Release Form is required to secure permission rights.

Audio and video tape duplication of non-copyrighted academic materials is available during weekday operating hours.

Digital video editing and limited post production services are offered to students and faculty based on availability.
