·        Requesting materials through Consort and OhioLINK

·        Negotiating Interlibrary Loan

·        Constructing effective Keyword searches

·        CBE citation style

·        Avoiding plagiarism

·        Using Research Databases (Academic Search Premier, LexisNexis, and Web of Science)

·        Small group explorations of a current science topic in the popular and scientific press

 

CBE Style Guide

This is the link to an online style guide for using the Council of Biology Editors citation guide in use at The Ohio State University.  It gives clear and concise instructions and examples for citing most types of literature encountered by students, including online articles from research databases.

 

Plagiarism Tutorial

This is a link to a 10 minute online quiz that instructs users in what plagiarism is and how to successful avoid committing this act of academic dishonesty.  Although it talks about plagiarism at Indiana University, its content is appropriate for any University.  Ohio Wesleyan University has a similar statement about plagiarism in its Student Handbook.

Being a Scientist is a short work published in 1994 by the Committee on Science, Engineering, and Public Policy of the National Academy of Sciences. It describes some of the ethical issues facing scientists in the practice of science.  Sections include:
